Dominic Taylor was born in 1946 in Essex and educated at school in Northern Ireland, where he attended school at Lisnagarvey High School and Wallace High School, Lisburn.

Dominic later attended the University of Kent and Westminster College, Oxford.

He joined the Society of Saint Francis in 1981. In 2003 he was received into the full communion of the Catholic Church at Ealing Abbey, was accepted as an aspirant there, and then as postulant. He was received as a novice and quickly showed his Benedictine spirit. During the period of temporary vows Dominic studied at Ealing Abbey. He made his Solemn profession in 2007 and was ordained to the presbyterate in 2009.

Abbot Dominic Taylor’s service to the Church and the world

He has been an active member of the pastoral team of St Benedict’s Parish. The parish’s Benedictine identity is very important both to the monks who serve it and to the members of the parish. The parish’s mission is to offer fitting praise to God in Christ and to spread his Good News in all that is said and done. Abbot Dominic is also a member of the Governing Body of St Benedict’s School, Ealing.
He has studied and maintains an active interest in Interfaith work and hosted the Benedictine-Shia dialogue at Ealing Abbey in 2018, attended by Abbot Primate Gregory Polen, Dr Mohammad Shomali and other representatives.

Abbot Dominic Taylor’ service to the monastic community

Abbot Martin Shipperlee appointed him as Prior in 2011, Novice Master, Bursar and Librarian. He served as monastic superior from February 2019 and the community elected him as their abbot on 9 July 2019 under the wise guidance of Rt Rev. Geoffrey Scott, abbot of Douai.
